Local Walk
Jane's Walk
Customers are welcome to leave their cars at the pub, and try this suggested walk before or after a meal with us.
This 1st walk takes approx 1.5 hrs and is only suitable for the fitter ones amongst you!, but is well worth it for the views and peace!
Proceed form the pub car park up through the Churchyard, and follow Birchhanger lane, up to the Old Rectory. From here, walk of the road straight up beside the Old Rectory drive, along the hedge and up through the fields and Kissing gate, until you reach a wooded footpath heading up the hill.
Turn right here, and continue up a steep wooded path ( which in the Spring and early summer is a beautiful Bluebell carpet).
Eventually after about 3/4 mile you will reach a small road at Colton Cross. (This road runs up past Nettlecombe Court towards Raleghs Cross). At this point you need to turn back on yourself and take a grassy track which leads you over a stile into Forestry land, which depending on wood cutters can be very peaceful, and Deer are usually spotted.
You continue now along the forestry track, keeping to the righthand tracks, and wind your way downhill, into the Combe Syndenham estate, and onto a permitted footpath, which runs along the valley bottom, beside the Combe Syndenham lakes, and eventually out onto the B3188. Turning left here, you finish your walk along the road and back to the Notley Arms in Monksilver.
You have now earned your pint!
